Day 36 — Our Body: the Temple of the Holy Spirit, Cleaned by Him
1 Corinthians 6
After Paul makes the case in chapter 4 for his service and the arrogance of some who have forgotten that they received everything n their possession, he moves on to address the importance of purity in the church.
In chapter 6, Paul revisits the concept of our bodies being a temple of the Holy Spirit and just as the church is to be pure, so are we in our vessel for the Spirit
1 Corinthians 6
1. The list of prior sins which keep from heaven are washed, sanctified, justified 6:5-11
in the name of Jesus and in the Spirit of our God
2. Our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit
a. The body is not for immorality 6:13
b. Our body is for the Lord and the Lord for our body 6:13
c. Our bodies are members of Christ 6:15
d. We join our bodies to the Lord, not substitutes (idols or prostitutes) 6:16,17
e. We are not our own, we were bought with a price 6:19
f. We are to glorify God in our bodies 6:20
g. Immorality is a sin against the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit 6:18
Questions:
1. When you read through the list in verses 5-13 and Paul is saying, “and such were some of you,”
did you feel a twinge of pain?
Where does the twinge come from— Holy Spirit or from Satan?
Rev 12:10 calls Satan the Accuser of the Brethren.
Jesus said the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin. John 16:8
Look at the word “WERE” some of you. Then look at the fact that we were washed and sanctified
and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. Our deliverance from the domain of darkness is to the praise of His glory, not ours. We are great sinners who have found a great Savior!
2. If we are still caught up in double mindedness and the old sins, then the conviction of the Holy
Spirit would bring us to repentance and His grace, unless we are hardening our hearts.
How can we tell if the prompting or conviction or “bad feelings” are from God or Satan?
3. Our body is a gift from the Lord to house the Holy Spirit. When friends come to visit our home
from far away, we spruce up the house to make them feel at home.
How can we spruce up our residence for the Spirit?
4. Whose body is it anyway?
How much did it cost?
What was the alternative?

Chapter 11 Avoid factions and unworthy communion and learn how the Lord has knitted the
body together in His Spirit and love.
