Day 6 Ascension and Commission: The Call

We thought Jesus at the Last Supper was giving his last words. And then the glorious Resurrection gave new life and hope as He interacted with them the following 40 days. At the end of this time, before He sat at the right hand of the Father, He prepared them for their ultimate mission in His final words while with them. He addresses their pastoral roles, His presence with them and the power source for this mission.
1. Jesus’ calls Peter to love Him and to tend My lambs, shepherd My sheep, and tend My lambs. John 21:15-17
2. Peter’s concern about what Jesus will do with John. Jesus tells him to let Me worry about John, “You, follow Me.” John 15:22
3. Go make disciples of all nations Matt 28:19, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:37
4. Baptize disciples in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Matt 28:19, Mk 16:16
5. Teach disciples to observe all Jesus commands Matt 28:20
6. I am with you always to the end of the age. Matt 28:20
7. Jesus opens the minds of the believers to understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:45
8. You are witnesses to these things Luke 24:48
9. Wait for the Holy Spirit to be on you. Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4,8
10. Worship before and following His ascension Matt 28:17, Luke 24:52

1. Who are the lambs and sheep that Jesus has entrusted to your care?
2. What are at least 5 priorities of shepherding these (from the above)?
3. Why did Jesus start with “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth?
4. Without the Holy Spirit, what can be accomplished?
5. Without the Scriptures and understanding, what will happen?
6. Is there an area of growth in these 10 items that you sense the Holy Spirit nudging you to focus on or improve?
